An enthusiastic and appreciative home crowd at the magnificent 400 seater University of Cambridge Sports Centre enjoyed this pre Christmas cracker of a FA National Futsal Series league match between Cambridge (lying 4th in the table) and Loughborough (lying 2nd in the table).
The Cambridge “Bees” had conceded 4-2 fouls after 10mins of the first half, so for the remaining 10mins had to show more restraint to avoid 10m penalties being awarded against them. A competitive, young visiting student side took full advantage of this by then scoring 3 goals in 3mins. 0-3
The home side unfortunately weren’t able to respond until young 16yr old Adi LAWRENCE managed to respond with 3mins to half time 1-3
HT Cambridge 1 Loughborough 3
Second half saw the Bees feeling stung & came out & dominated possession from the off, quickly managing to close the gap with a fine taken goal from an impressive ALFONSO Lanza. 2-3
However, with just 7mins remaining, the visitors capitalised on a fortunate “back of the head” deflection from a keepers throw, thus creating a 2v2 from which they scored.2-4
This was shortly after built on by Loughborough with a 3v1 counter attack and quick low shot from 12m which silenced the crowd. 2-5
The Bees weren’t giving up though and within 1min had managed to close the gap again to within 1 goal of snatching something from the game with a fine solo effort by ANGEL Martinez and a tap in by another youngster, 16yr old Joshua EVERITT. 4-5
In the last few minutes Cambridge threw everything at Loughborough but in the final seconds the visitors managed to secure their win with a breakaway goal.
