Cambridge 3 London Baku Utd 2

Super Cup Sunday!

The largest crowd of the season so far saw an intense encounter between these 2 old adversaries in the FA National Futsal Series Super Cup (South) group stage match.

London Baku, whose home venue is the magnificent London Copperbox Arena, are previous UEFA Futsal Champions League qualifiers so a close game was anticipated & this didn’t disappoint.

Space was at a premium in this match where first touch & finishing prowess was everything.

The Bee’s went in at the Half Time break with a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Michael COOPER and a typical thunder strike from 15m by Jonny TOFTS which saw the venue erupt in a noise of cheers, claps, drum & air horn & plenty of flag waving.

Second half was an extremely tense affair with neither side really grabbing the game as both teams matched each other toe to toe. The 2 match officials did an excellent job of maintaining discipline & adhering to the strict rules which allowed for a physical, fast pace & flowing game.

Jonny TOFTS again came to the rescue in settling the nerves mid way through the second half by smashing another long range shot into the net & with an “Eric Cantona” type celebration, turned with arms raised, basked in the eruption of noise & joy that ensued. It’s fair to say the place was buzzing!

The Bee’s managed to see out the final few minutes of the game  despite being on 5 fouls thus avoided any penalty kicks that would have resulted from each & every further foul.

The visitors managed a late goal to keep the atmosphere electric but the clock ran out of time, the buzzer sounded and the FA NFS Super Cup (South) 3pts went to the home side.
