Arriving at the magnificent University of Cambridge Sports Centre for this penultimate home match in the FA National Futsal Series (as broadcast on BT Sport), I was met in the car park by the Bee’s Ukrainian star player, Vitalii Burnus, surprisingly in an ambulance!
He informed me that after the match he was driving the ambulance straight to Ukraine to deliver much needed medical supplies! After a months absence, it was pleasing to see a good, noisy home crowd that enjoyed a physical match. This resulted in both teams conceding several 10m penalty kicks in each half for having committed 5+ fouls, a rule particular to futsal that allows for a physical but fair contest between teams & helps match officials control the spirit of the game.
Leading 4-1 at Half Time, the Bees were in a commanding position but the young visitors from Milton Keynes had other ideas. Ultimately however, the Bees managed to retain their 3 goal cushion and finish the match 6-3 victors, with one of the goals coming from Vitalii himself (see above photo captured by @JovialJooles & his “Fan Cam”) So, 3points to the Bee’s, 5th in the league table and with exciting one home match left v London Baku Utd (previous National Futsal League winners & UEFA Futsal Champions League 🏴 representatives) on Sunday 24th April ko 1245pm. All Welcome! 🐝 Goalscorers Isaac Griffiths x2 Jonny Tofts x2 Vitatalii Burnus Alfonso Lanza
Here‘s wishing Vitalii a safe journey to & from Ukraine
