What a magnificent weekend of indoor sports action for followers of Cambridge Futsal Club!
Having enjoyed on Saturday afternoon the historic first match played by the Cambridge Futsal Club’s Women’s team at the magnificent 300 seater indoor stadium of the University of Bedford, the attention turned to the Men’s FA National Futsal Series Super Cup Group match in North London. Genesis (not “the”super group but a super futsal team!) are old adversaries where results have been shared over the years & matches very competitive & tight. This was to be no exception!
A magnificent start by the Bee’s saw them take a 2 goal lead after a superb cross from the right side of the court from Harrison Horton was finished with aplomb by Sergio Perez for his first goal for the club.
This was followed shortly after by the award of a penalty to the visitors which was expertly converted by the ever dependable Angel Martinez.
However the home team were not to be beaten that easily and with the Bee’s attempting to keep them at bay by pressing high up a long 40m court, Genesis managed to score 2 goals to bring the scores level at half time 2-2.
Second half saw the Bee's come out strong & Cambridge's “Beast from the East”, proud Ukrainian Vitalii Burnus was soon on hand to latch onto a parry from the keeper and blast his 12m shot into the net past a despairing last defender to grab a deserved 2-3 lead.
However, Genesis again proved resilient & pulled level with a smart 1-2 passing move down the right wing making the score 3-3.
And so the scores remained level during a tense final 12minutes where both teams had chances to secure the win.
An excellent game, very well officiated that allowed for a firm but fair encounter.
