MK Mavericks 4-10 Cambridge Futsal

The Bees visited bottom club MK Mavericks on the back of 3 wins and never looked like dropping any points in a late KO at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

Cambridge pressed the home team and took the lead with a goal from top scorer Angel Martinez after 6 minutes. 2 more goals quickly followed from Greg Birch and another from Martinez. The home side pulled one back, but Birch grabbed his second to put the Bees back in control, however the pressing game that the visitors were playing also lead to a number of fouls being committed and Cambridge quite literally paid the penalty when the Mavericks were awarded a long penalty which was well dispatched. Despite this Cambridge were on top and a long range effort from skipper Jonny Tofts saw the 3 goal lead restored and Martinez wrapped up a first half hat-trick to put the Bees well in control at the break.

The second period saw the Bees take complete control of the match, the hosts struggling to deal with the high press and it was no surprise when Martinez struck again. In just his second match Alfonso Lanza finished a good move to score his second goal in his second game for the Bees and Martinez bagged his fifth and the Bee's 9th soon after. Tofts found the net with another long range effort and Cambridge were cruising 10-2 up halfway through the second half. But in a similar fashion to the previous week Cambridge seemed to lose focus after an excellent start to the half and the game became increasingly scrappy, the Mavericks took full advantage netting twice, but never looked like threatening the lead built by the Bees.
