“Take 5”

An eventful weekend for Cambridge Futsal Club with some academy age groups playing in London, the Women at Bedford and the Men at home and many supporters asking “What’s all that jazz?”

Firstly, the U.10,U.11 & U.12’s took part in the National Youth Futsal Alliance Cup at the Score Centre in East London, an event enjoyed by the players, staff & many travelling parents in what is a notoriously cold venue. If you’ve ever been, even in the height of summer, you know!

Saturday saw the Women’s First Team take on Reading Royals at the 300 seater Bedford Arena. The Royals travelled with a full 10 player squad but alas the Bees were only able to muster 5 available players with one of those players due an operation this week on an elbow injury.

So it was surprising that the Bees went ahead with an early goal from Silvia DE DOMINICIS and battled hard  to keep the scores close until they went down to 4 players with 5mins of the first half remaining.

Second half saw the Royals sportingly agree to match the Bees 4 remaining players and so the match continued at a competitive, enjoyable level with some fine play from both teams…and lots of great goals!

With 18 registered in the squad, the women are still looking for more committed and available players to join them. So, if your reading this & fed up being on the football subs bench, perhaps FUTSAL maybe the game for YOU!🫵

Sunday saw the Mens First Team hosting at the magnificent 400 seater University of Cambridge Sports Centre, the multiple & current National Champions, London Helvecia. For reasons not explained, surprisingly the visitors arrived with only 5 players…but what a 5!

An enthusiastic & noisy home crowd were witness to a display of excellent defending & counter attacking futsal where each experienced visiting player was comfortable in possession and determined out of possession to defend their goal. Not that they needed to worry with a top class display from their English keeper who managed to silence even the Bees NOISY drummer in the second half.

A comprehensive display of futsal excellence from the National Champions who were deserving winners.

Huge lessons for several young, inexperienced home players to take on board from the experienced, international visiting players.

No time to rest. This Saturday morning the Women are playing a local derby v Bedford @ Bedford in the league whilst on Sunday the Men are on the road away v Reading Royals, also a league match. Lots to look forward too.
