What a wonderful weekend of fantastic futsal action from the FA National Futsal Series!
Saturday saw the Bees Women’s team play only their second competitive match. Again held at the superb 300 seater indoor Bedford Arena the women, despite losing to an experienced London team, managed to hold them to 1-1 for the first 15mins and 0-0 for the final 10mins. However, futsal is relentless and played over 40mins with a stop clock when the ball goes out of play so there’s no time wasting. Great effort from the women with their historic first goal being scored by ever combative Emily SMITH who was joined on the score sheet by bright young & energetic 16yr old Eve SEYF.
Lots of positives to be build on for the new coaching partnership of Player/Manager Paris Brixey & Erol Opal, despite the score line & result.

Sunday saw the Men travel to the centre of the country and take on old adversaries & newly relegated Birmingham WLV at the magnificent Walsall Campus venue as seen on television last season on BT Sport.
Birmingham got off to a flyer and were 4-1 ahead after only 9mins but following a great use of a 1min Time Out “talk” by Head Coach Luis Mendonca, the squad managed to compose themselves, and claw the game back to a 4-5 lead by Half Time.
Second Half saw the teams continue to spa with one another until around 15mins left when 2 goals in a minute and then another with just 10mins left on the clock, saw the Bees 6-9 ahead. However, Birmingham fought back to 7-9 with an immediate reply.
The Bee’s Joshua EVERITT managed to make it 7-10 with his left foot shot at first parried by the keeper until he slotted the ball home with his right foot.
A nervy final 5 mins ensued with Cambridge having conceded 5 fouls. A 6th & converted 10m penalty saw the Bees having to use all their skill & experience to finish out the game and take the 3points back down the A14 to Cambridge.
